Nearly three years ago, following announcements that the European Commission was investigating potentially anticompetitive practices by Norwegian salmon suppliers, the Firm filed suit against the suppliers on behalf of The Fishing Line, a seafood distribution company and direct purchaser of Norwegian salmon. The Complaint asserted claims under the Sherman Antitrust Act on behalf of a class of direct salmon purchasers. Subsequently, the Firm was appointed to the Plaintiffs’ Executive Committee with other direct purchasers that filed lawsuits to prosecute the claims. After extensive discovery, on September 8, 2022, Judge Cecelia Altonaga granted final approval to a settlement of the action. Among other things, the settlement resulted in an $85 million settlement fund for the benefit of the class. This settlement was achieved before class certification was briefed and there were no objectors and no opt-outs to the settlement. The case is In Re Farm-Raised Salmon and Salmon Products Litigation, No. 1:19-cv-21551 (S.D. Fla.).
A copy of the Order approving the settlement can be found here.
